Report for 2016

Wow just when I thought the numbers couldn't get better than last year with 230 sheep we went and topped it with 278 sheep entered. 13 pens of Fat Lambs. Young Handlers again was a fantastic turn out with 19 children entered across 3 age groups, laughter was had by all as we had children who didn't want to speak to the judge and lambs not wanting to walk on the halter. It all adds to the character of working with children and animals. I love it!

White Faced Woodlands were new to 2016 and it was a fantastic turn out with 7 breeders and 55 sheep entered across 7 classes with A D Crampton winning Best Lamb with his Ewe Lamb, Breed Champion with his Shearling Ewe and Reserve Champion with his Ewe Lamb. The Ken Wild memorial cup for Champion was kindly donated by Mrs Beth Wild. It was an Honor to have Beth to Present it on the day. Many thanks also to the Thorp family for donating a memorial shield for Champion home bred Shearling Ram in memory of Haydon Thorp. Again I was very honoured to have Haydon’s mum to present the shield. Many Thanks to all involved for getting the trophies ready in time. Another new Trophy for 2016 was kindly donated by Mr Stephen Short for Champion Hampshire Down and I'm very proud to say it was presented to Stephen himself for his Ewe Lamb. (well done Stephen)

It was great to see Texels back in their own class, but we really need 3 more breeders to continue with the class. I am already looking into how we can get back into a points system. Clive Mitchell had a great day winning best lamb and breed champion with his Derbyshire Gritstone Ewe lamb. He also won best lamb in the Lonk class with his Ewe lamb and Champion with his Shearling Ram and this then went onto win Supreme Champion, Mr Stephen Hipps came a very close Reserve Champion with his Shearling Ram. In honour of celebrating our 70th show Clive has now won the chance to have his Shearling Ram painted by local Artist Mrs Yvonne Stubbs, who I can vouch does a fantastic job as we have 5 paintings in the family of various animals. Once it is complete the picture will be on this page.

Sadly, last year I lost a loyal and well respected Exhibitor Mr Malcolm Jackson. It was very humbling to have his Derbyshire gritstone sheep in the show for one last time this year, with his late wife, Daughter and Granddaughter. Many thanks goes out to them.

Many Thanks to all the Exhibitors for their continued support I really am very greatfull. Thank you to all who helped me in setting up, in the tent and taking the hurdles down. The biggest thank you goes to all the stewards for their fantastic work on the day, I really couldn't have done it without you, but especially my daughter and two nieces for all the hours of paper work they have helped me to plough through. I've already started work on next year’s show and look forward to seeing you there for my 15th show. Heck!
